With the scheduled release date comming closer in giant steps, there are still some loose ends.

The first (almost) fully working ISO image of BlueOnyx is released in private for the beta testers.

After spending a month almost exclusively on BlueOnyx things start to shape up quite nicely and a tentative release date of "end of December 2008" appears feasible.

We finally decide on the name "BlueOnyx" for this new project.

Brian Smith rolls up the first Alpha ISO image of our new code. For a lack of a better name the code has the working title "NewQuartz".

While working on JSP enabled BlueQuartz servers of some clients in Vietnam I spot some issues with the two JSP PKGs that are freely available for BlueQuartz. Eventually this kicks off BlueOnyx.

Brian Smith asks Hisao on the developer list about the status of the patches that have been released for the 5100R code tree and especially if and when they will be released.

In case you don't know it, the word TEAM is a German acronym for "Toll! Ein Anderer machts!" (Cool! Someone else is doing it!).

Taco Scargo (former Sun Cobalt employee and BlueQuartz developer) asks about the status of the port to CentOS5. After all, a month has passed, but not much news has been posted on the developer mailing list.

On 27th October 2007 and in reflection of the discussion on the public BlueQuartz mailing list I started to post my thoughts about the future of BlueQuartz on the internal developer mailing list.

It took a while, but eventually the users started to get restless about the lack of progress in BlueQuartz.

After a lengthy time in development CentOS 5 is released.
