Mailman

The last version of BlueOnyx that has Mailman integrated is BlueOnyx 5210R. All later version do not have Mailman or mailing list functionality built in.

Why there is no Mailman RPM for EL9 and EL10

This is not a BlueOnyx-specific decision. We would have loved to include it! But it is a consequence of upstream changes in the Linux ecosystem:

  • Mailman 2.x, which BlueOnyx historically integrated, is end-of-life and no longer maintained upstream.
  • Enterprise Linux distributions (EL9 and EL10, including AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and RHEL) do not ship Mailman 2.x packages and do not accept new ones, due to security, Python version, and maintenance concerns.
  • Mailman 3 is a complete architectural rewrite and is not a simple drop-in replacement:
    • It requires multiple components (Mailman Core, Postorius, HyperKitty)
    • It depends on a modern web application stack (Django)
    • It no longer integrates cleanly with the traditional Mailman 2 / Sendmail / Postfix workflow that BlueOnyx was designed around

Because of this, providing a supported and secure Mailman RPM for EL9 or EL10 is not feasible without a full redesign of the mailing list subsystem.

Current position:

  • BlueOnyx does not include Mailman on EL9-based or newer releases.
  • There are no official Mailman RPMs for EL9 or EL10 provided by BlueOnyx.
  • Mailing list functionality is considered deprecated in the BlueOnyx platform.

Users who still require mailing lists are advised to run them externally (for example on a dedicated Mailman 3 system or via a hosted mailing list service) and integrate them at the SMTP level if needed.
