BlueOnyx 5210R: Apache Throttle (mod_qos) removal

09Jun 2026Posted by: mstauberCategory: General

The feature Apache Throttle (mod_qos)  has been removed from BlueOnyx 5210R.

We have published updated BlueOnyx 5210R DNF updates that remove the recently introduced Apache Throttle functionality from this platform.

Apache Throttle is based on mod_qos and was designed to provide server-wide Apache request throttling and request-rate protection. However, during testing and real-world use on BlueOnyx 5210R, we found that mod_qos is not suitable for this platform. Due to prefork/worker related Apache MPM issues, enabling this functionality could cause Apache to become unstable.

For that reason, we have removed Apache Throttle from BlueOnyx 5210R. Service stability is more important than providing an optional request-throttling feature that may negatively affect Apache reliability.

New DNF updates have been published for BlueOnyx 5210R. These updates remove the Apache Throttle functionality from the GUI, disable the related configuration handling, and restore the previous stable Apache behavior.

Administrators of BlueOnyx 5210R systems should install the latest updates with:

dnf clean all && dnf update -y

After the updates have been applied, Apache will return to the known stable configuration state for BlueOnyx 5210R.

This change only affects BlueOnyx 5210R. Other BlueOnyx releases (5211R and 5212R) are not affected by this removal where their Apache environment supports the feature safely.
